Twitter or sometimes referred to as the SMS of the internet by Jack Dorsey gained its international notability since its creation in 2006. By allowing its users to send tweets (message containing 140 characters in maximum) free, it has been very popular worldwide. Facebook by Mark Zuckerberg on the other hand is like an imitation of another social network, friendster. The popularity of these social networks was almost equal until Facebook started to lag behind Twitter. This is probably because Twitter offers a faster and more convenient way of sending messages which is comparable to the SMS service of our cell phones. Facebook is a more complex network which truly needs maintenance by the users.

In hope to cope with the success of Twitter which has undeniably reached the zenith of its success, Facebook has offered new service that will enable them (and maybe other users) to see the activity and changes to the state of the users. The problem being referred is a Phishing scam which do not attack a user’s computer but tries to steal a person’s username as well as his/her password. The system of the scam was a simple yet a clever one. It will make a user believe that he or she has been disconnected to Facebook and will be forced to log in again by clicking the “hello” message that contains the link http://www.facebook.com/l/4253f;http: //fbaction.net/ and will bring the user to the log in page of Facebook which is actually not a page of the said network. Upon re-log in of the user, phishers do their job and steals the identity of the user.

Facebook already said that they are already aware of this problem but why is it that the problem has not been eliminated? Could it be that the chances for what they call inside-job is possible? If this is so, I for one believe that Facebook can no longer be treated as a friendly site because as you are logging in, your identity might be stolen from you.
