Medialink Events Management in cooperation with the City Government of Dagupan has just finished its first day of the 2 day seminar of the 2nd Regional Information & Communications Technology Congress with the theme “Bolstering Region 1′s Strengths with the Latest ICT Trends and Technologies” Held at the Dagupan City People’s Astrodome on February 05 and 06, 2009.

This two-day event will feature on the potentials and employability in the field of the Robotics, Nanotechnology, Animation and Game Development. Most of the keynote Speakers and lecturers are from prominent national and regional leaders in the field of information technology, media, and telecommunications.

The first day of the seminar was a little bit boring since the most-awaited Senator Richard “Dick” Gordon, who suppose to be the opening speaker and the main personality of the ICT congress for 2009 did not arrive on time. And so, the Commissioner of ICT Cyberservices Group named Monchito B. Ibrahim becomes the first one to give his lecture.

The commissioner speaks more on the global issues concerning BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) that most of the Manufacturing industry is now on India and China because of cheaper labor cost. He also added that the only chance Filipinos can match with the glowing industry in ICT is that the Philippines should focus on Services, advertising and marketing because of the abilities and qualities of Filipinos, like fluency in English, proficiency of different technologies and being hospitable.

Then Senator Gordon came, he talks about the walls of “Bagumbayan” He talks about the physical walls and the figurative walls. He imparted that Filipinos are naturally horizon-seekers. Filipinos naturally wanted to widen out, conquer the boundaries and learning more. But colonizers created walls physically and figuratively. The figurative wall is more destructive. It discourages people to improve itself and the community where he belonged. But according to Gordon, he already remove the walls from his mind, so that the seemingly impossible is possible. As usual, from a politician, he talked politics at some points.

The huge audience was mostly participated by high school and college students as well as teachers and practitioners in the ICT and media sectors. Seminar like this is always expected to give local and national businesses and academic institutions the total awareness in Information and Communication Technology and the potential of this field to be globally competitive to meet the current needs of the industry market as thousands of new business ideas are coming from the individuals’ who has the hidden capability to exile in today Technological Industry.
